Have I become one of “those” people?
By “those” people I am referring to spammers. You know, the people that call themselves companies who constantly email you about things you could care less about. Those people that will bug you with the hopes that maybe, just maybe, you will be that 0.1% that will take the bait and use their service or buy their product.
It was today that I felt like I had become one of “those” people. How? Well I had recently hired someone to run my Instagram account for a week in an attempt to engage with other users, grow followers and really build the foundation of a strong social media presence. Side note: When it comes to Instagram, I believe it to be one of the better social media platforms for internet marketing. I will go into further detail about this in later posts. Anyways, it was today that I noticed that my account was leaving “spammy” comments on other users’ Instagram posts. I only noticed this when I attempted to add a caption under a post that I do everyday and Instagram had blocked me from doing it for 9 hours. So I checked my recent activity and noticed comments being left on other accounts.
I immediately thought how annoyed I become when I am “attacked” with spammy content. In hindsight, I had become a hypocrite and it’s not the foundation I want Leaflets to stand on. Nor is it a foundation any business should stand on.
Marketing involves work and creativity. It’s taking the time to get to know your target audience and presenting them with a solution, not arbituraily choosing people to throw your message at. Knowing the difference between spamming someone and marketing to someone will go a long way in preparing a business for success. Let’s take a stand on a solid foundation and chant:
NO MORE SPAM.
